SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Rocklett "Rocky" E. Smith of Rock
4Island, who passed away on December 4, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rocky Smith was born to Willis Napoleon Smith and
6Gertrude Savannah Dutton Smith in Louisville, Kentucky on June
712, 1942; he served in the U.S. Army; he married Eilene Murphy
8in East Moline on September 3, 1976; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rocky Smith worked at Caterpillar for many years;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rocky Smith was a member of Christ Apostolic
12Church, Davenport, where he was a minister, deacon, and Sunday
13School teacher; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rocky Smith loved reading, studying the bible,
15and teaching others; he enjoyed playing chess and a good cup of
16coffee while reading; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Rocky Smith was preceded in death by his parents;
18his two sisters; and his five brothers; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rocky Smith is survived by his wife, Eilene M.

1Smith; his son, Sedric (Paulita) Murphy; his daughter, Miriam
2Smith; his grandchildren, Josua Christopher Murphy and Caleb
3Josiah Smith; his brother, Ralph Smith; his sisters, Norma
4Louise Woodfork, Audrey Murray, Wanda Dunn, and Quintella
5(Raymond) Pulliam; his nieces and nephews; his additional
6family; and his special friends, Bishop Richard Hayslett and
7Melvin Walton; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Rocklett "Rocky" E. Smith and extend our sincere condolences
11to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
12it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Rocky Smith as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
