SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Hugh G. Epperson Jr. of Rock Island,
4who passed away on October 31, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson was born in Mercer County on
6December 8, 1924; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War
7II, and one of his greatest memories was joining fellow
8veterans on a Quad Cities Honor Flight; he married Alice
9DeMartelaere in Rock Island on July 27, 1947; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson worked for the Rock Island Fire
11Department and spent 28 years at the Rock Island Arsenal Fire
12Department, retiring as the assistant chief; after retirement,
13he worked security and safety as the safety manager at John
14Deere Davenport Works and then worked part time at Export
15Packaging (XPAC), until his full retirement; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson was a member of Masonic Eureka
17Lodge #69, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Moline American Legion
18Post #246, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Rock Island, and the
19Loyal Order of Moose Rock Island; he was a lifelong Chicago
20Cubs fan; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson was preceded in death by his

1parents and his brother, Keith Epperson; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson is survived by his wife, Alice
3Epperson; his children, Sandra Black, Nancy (Kent) Thomas, and
4Edward (Tammy) Epperson; eight grandsons; eight
5great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Hugh G. Epperson Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Hugh Epperson as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
