SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Marie V. Nickels, who passed away
4peacefully in her River Forest home surrounded by family, at
5the age of 99; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marie Nickels was born to Louis and Gertrude
7Patke in Chicago on November 30, 1921; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Marie Nickels grew up on the North Side of
9Chicago in the Albany Park neighborhood; she attended Our Lady
10of Mercy Grammar School and Immaculata High School; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marie Nickels continued her education at Rosary
12College, now Dominican University, and graduated with a degree
13in Library Science; she became a librarian at Barat College;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Marie Nickels married her longtime neighborhood
16sweetheart, William C. Nickels; she traveled the world with
17him; her four children, Bob, Pam, Mary, and Bill, were her
18pride and joy; she enjoyed spending time with her
19grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Marie Nickels enjoyed cooking and was a "wiz" in

1the kitchen; she produced gourmet meals every night; she
2delighted in searching for the freshest fruits and vegetables
3at her summer home in Montague, Michigan; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Marie Nickels was preceded in death by her first
5husband, William C. Nickels; her grandchild, Billy Nickels;
6and her brother, Don (Shirley) Patke; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marie Nickels is survived by Robert (Mary Kay),
8Pamela (Edward) Dieschbourg, Mary (Daniel) Dillon, and William
9(Paula) Nickels; her grandchildren, Katy (Richard) Sequeira,
10Tom, Clare (Andy) Retrum, Julie (Jeff) Wojtowicz, Beth
11(Conrad) Perez, Mary Pat (Mike) Kwit, Matt (Hannah) and Mike
12(Gina) Nickels, Lisa Von Roenn, David, Ryan, and Nick
13Dieschbourg, Emily (Mike) Gallagher, Lauren (Bill) Ellsworth,
14Dan Dillon, and Maddie Nickels; and her 23
15great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Marie V. Nickels, and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Marie V. Nickels as an expression of
