SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Preston Humphrey Jr. of St. Louis,
4Missouri, who passed away on August 31, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was born on May 29, 1972; he
6earned his Juris Doctor from Washington University in St.
7Louis School of Law in 1997; he lived in the Soulard
8neighborhood of St. Louis; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was serving as the federal
10public defender for the southern district of Illinois at the
11time of his passing; he was formally appointed to that role in
12August 2020; prior to that, he served as the first assistant
13public defender; before joining the public defender's office,
14he served in private practice for years; he was noted by his
15peers for being an outstanding attorney who fought valiantly
16for his clients; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was a big fan of the St.
18Louis Cardinals and an avid darts player; he was active in
19Mardi Gras events in Soulard; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was a son, a brother, and a
21friend; he was known for his wit, humor, and loyalty; he will

1be remembered as a quality individual of the highest order;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was preceded in death by his
4father; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. is survived by his mother
6and his two older sisters; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Preston Humphrey Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Preston Humphrey Jr. as an
14expression of our deepest sympathy.
