SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Robert Spencer Fleming of Moline, who
4passed away on August 25, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming was born in Riverside, California
6to Wilbur and Dorothy (Snell) Fleming on October 23, 1927; he
7graduated from Denison University; he attended Ohio State
8University Law School; he married Caroline Warfield in Moline
9on July 29, 1952; he served in the U.S. Navy during both World
10War II and the Korean War; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming worked as an executive at Deere
12and Company for nearly 30 years before retiring in 1982; he
13then served as a municipal court magistrate in Iowa for three
14years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming was a member of the First
16Congregational Church in Moline, the Moline Rotary Club, and
17the Wabaningo Community Church in Whitehall, Michigan, where
18he served as treasurer and greeter; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming enjoyed spending the winter
20holidays in Sarasota, Florida, and summers at the family
21cottage in Sylvan Beach, Michigan; he spent his summers

1playing tennis and badminton, swimming in Lake Michigan, and
2playing golf, which he took up after retirement; he got his
3first hole-in-one at age 75 and continued to play into his late
480s; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming is survived by his wife of 69
6years, Caroline; his four children and their spouses, Susan
7Schuler, Mary and Scott Francis, William and Sufia Fleming,
8and David Fleming and fiancée Jacklyn Headrick; his four
9grandchildren, Jillian Schuler and her husband Walter Beer,
10T.J. Schuler, Bobby Francis, and Sarah Francis; and his
11brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Fleming;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Robert Spencer Fleming and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Robert Fleming as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
