SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Wesley G. "Wes" Greenwood of Milan,
4who passed away on May 4, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wes Greenwood was born in Xenia to Bernard and
6Opal Milburn Greenwood on November 10, 1930; he joined the
7U.S. Army in 1948 and served with the 1st Calvary Division; he
8spent time stationed in Japan and fought in the Korean War; he
9later became a gunnery instructor at Fort Carson, Colorado
10with the rank of sergeant; he married Carol Balster in Denver,
11Colorado on March 1, 1952, and they settled in the Quad Cities
12in August of 1952; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Wes Greenwood was discharged from the Army in
14April of 1952 and became an electrician at the Rock Island
15Arsenal; he later joined the Milan Police Department, where he
16was promoted to chief in 1956; he served for more than 37
17years, retiring in 1991; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Wes Greenwood was active in the Illinois Police
19Association; he helped organize the Quad Cities Association of
20Chiefs, where he served as president; he organized the Milan
21Auxiliary Police Department and was a member of the
22International Police Chiefs Association; he was also a member

1of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milan, Rock Island V.F.W.
2Post 1303, and Rock Island Moose Lodge 190; he was a life
3member of Milan American Legion Post 56 and a charter member of
4the Milan Optimist Club and the Milan Knights of Pythias; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wes Greenwood received numerous recognitions over
6the years, which included Officer of the Year in 1988 and
7Optimist of the year; he was the festival parade marshal in
81975 and received the Community Service Award in 1986 from the
9Milan Chamber of Commerce; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Wes Greenwood enjoyed boating on the Mississippi
11for over 20 years and traveled to all 50 states, mostly by
12motorhome; he loved hunting and built and maintained a hunting
13lodge in Artesian, South Dakota since 1990; he spent many
14winters in Mesa, Arizona and Florida; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Wes Greenwood was preceded in death by his
16parents; his daughter, Brenda Greenwood; and his brother,
17Larry Greenwood; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Wes Greenwood is survived by his wife, Carol; his
19children, Lesley (Julie) Greenwood, Jan (Calvin) Heiar, and
20Gail (Kevin) Mueller; his grandchildren, J.R. (Michelle)
21Greenwood, Michael Greenwood, Paul (Jenny) Heiar, Scott Heiar,
22and Carolyn (Josh) Koeller; his great-grandchildren, Madison

1and Kaitlyn Greenwood and Bailey and Brady Heiar; his brother,
2Delbert (Harlene) Greenwood; his sisters, Ginger Nieders and
3Bernice McLain; and his sister-in-law, Liz Greenwood;
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Wesley G. "Wes" Greenwood and extend our sincere condolences
8to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
9it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Wes Greenwood as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
