SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of James L. Rogers Jr. of Rock Island,
4who passed away on March 3, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Rogers Jr. was born at Fort Benning,
6Georgia on March 14, 1942; he was the son of James L. and
7Marion (Berly) Rogers; he graduated from Oberlin College in
8Ohio, where he was heavily involved in musical theater; he
9served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War; he then served
10in the U.S. Navy Reserve and retired as a captain; he married
11Patricia Ellington in Texas on November 1, 1975; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Rogers Jr. was employed by the Boy Scouts
13of America, where he most recently served with the Illowa
14Council; he retired in 2009; previously, he worked on his
15family's citrus farm in Texas; he also owned several
16businesses; and
 
17    WHEREAS, James Rogers Jr. was an avid stamp collector, and
18he belonged to the Blackhawk Stamp Club and the Quad City Stamp
19Club; he was known for his beautiful baritone voice and
20performed in a number of musicals in community theater while
21living in Texas; and

1    WHEREAS, James Rogers Jr. is survived by his wife of 45
2years, Patricia; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Erika
3Rogers; his granddaughter, Mabyn Rogers; his sister, Marion
4Elizabeth Hensz; his nephew, Curt Bonner; and his nieces,
5Chris Karenbauer and Cydney Kaminski; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8James L. Rogers Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of James Rogers Jr. as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
