SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Lewis John Olson of Silvis, who passed
4away on March 2, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lewis Olson was born in Sublette to John and
6Hannah (Englund) Olson on August 26, 1921; he resided in
7Zearing, Kasbeer, and Princeton in Bureau County for 83 years
8of his life; he served in the U.S. Army in the 25th Division
9and received two bronze stars; he spent the first of his
1017-months overseas in the Philippines before the Occupation
11Forces arrived in Japan; he married Mary Cass at the Dover
12Congregational Church on June 12, 1949, and she preceded him
13in death on August 30, 2012; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lewis Olson worked in the grain elevator business
15for 35 years; he began as the one-man operator of Arlington
16Grain Co.'s Zearing branch for 5 years; he served as manager of
17the Kasbeer Farmer's Elevator from 1951 to 1960 and the Putnam
18Grain Co. from 1960 to 1967; he bought a small farm west of
19Lena and worked at Lena Builders from 1967 to 1969; he returned
20as manager of the Kasbeer Elevator, where he worked from 1969
21to 1983; after retiring from the elevator business, he was
22self-employed with his son for 3 years; during his last 3
23working years, he was a delivery route driver for Princeton's

1Crescent Electric; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Lewis Olson was a longtime member of the First
3Methodist Church in Princeton; he was a 24-year member of the
4Metro-Center, where he walked regularly; he played in softball
5and bowling leagues in his younger years, enjoyed pitching
6horseshoes, and never grew tired of going to auctions; he
7loved his family and spending time with them; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lewis Olson was preceded in death by his wife of
963 years; his parents; his daughter, Sue C. Brummett; his
10grandson, Justin Brummett; and his sister, Florence (Robert)
11Standley; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lewis Olson is survived by his son, Kent Olson;
13his grandchildren, Chad Brummett and Aimee Brummett; his six
14great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews; therefore, be
15it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Lewis John Olson and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
