SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Marvin E. Perzee devoted 54 years of his life in
3service to the Iroquois County Fair and the larger county fair
4community of Illinois; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Perzee joined the Iroquois County
6Agricultural & 4-H Fairs Association in 1965 at the age of 22,
7serving as president beginning in 1973 and vice president in
82019; he was instrumental in advocating for issues affecting
9farmers and agriculture and developed an unrivaled knowledge
10of the inner workings of the Iroquois County Fair; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Beginning in 1979, Marvin Perzee was a member of
12the legislative committee for the Illinois Association of
13Agricultural Fairs and served as its chairman for 40 years;
14also beginning in 1979, he served as vice president of the
15Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Association's
16Northern District, and from 1982 to 1983, he served as
17president; and
 
18    WHEREAS, From 1983-1984, Marvin Perzee was a member of the
19advisory board for the Division of Fairs and Horse Racing;
20from 1984 to 1989, he was director of the Illinois Association
21of Agricultural Fairs; in 1984, he was the recipient of the
22Department of Agriculture's Fairman of the Year Award; from

11990 to 1998, he was appointed to the State Fair Advisory
2Board; from 1990 to 1991, he was president of the Illinois
3Association of Agricultural Fairs; from 1992 to 1996, he was
4director-at-large of the Illinois Association of Agricultural
5Fairs; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marvin Perzee led the Ashkum Chargers 4-H Club,
7starting in 1965; he served on the Iroquois County Extension
8Council from 1971 to 1981; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Marvin Perzee even met his wife, Sharon, while
10she was working with county fairs throughout the State; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marvin Perzee was a farmer first; he received the
12American Farmer Degree from the FFA in 1963; in 1973, he
13received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award from the Illinois
14Jaycees; in 1999, he received Prairie Farmer's Master Farmer
15Award; from 1999 to 2003, he was appointed to Attorney General
16Jim Ryan's advisory board; in 2005, he received the Watseka
17Times-Republic's Lifetime Achievement Award; in 2006, he and
18Sharon received the Kankakee Daily Journal's Farm Family of
19the Year Award; in 2007, he was inducted into the University of
20Illinois' 4-H Hall of Fame; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare May 20, 2021

1as "Marvin Perzee County Fair Day" in the State of Illinois in
2recognition of his tireless efforts to promote agriculture and
3county fairs across the State; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to Sharon Perzee as a symbol of our respect and
6esteem.
