HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Donald
4Leonard "Don" Grubaugh of Ottawa, who passed away on November
525, 2022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was born to George and Lillian
7(Philhower) Grubaugh in Ottawa on March 26, 1941; he attended
8Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Ottawa Township
9High School, where he played the trombone and tuba and
10participated in track; he earned his Certificate in Banking
11from the University of Wisconsin at Madison; he married
12Eustachia "Diane" Knoedler at the First Presbyterian Church in
13Grand Ridge on October 5, 1963, and she preceded him in death
14on May 3, 2015; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was drafted into the U.S. Army
16during Vietnam, where he was assigned to D Company, 52nd
17Infantry Regiment at Bien Hoa and Long Binh from March 1967 to
18March 1968; he was wounded in an explosion during the Tet
19Offensive on January 31, 1968, earning the Bronze Star for
20bravery and other service medals; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh had a 39-year career at First
22National Bank of Ottawa, working his way from bank teller just

1after high school to vice president; he enjoyed helping people
2purchase homes and invest in the community; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was an avid and very skilled golfer;
4over the course of every summer for 45 years, he served as a
5logistics/radio volunteer for the PGA World Series of Golf and
6World Golf Championship Tournaments held at Firestone Country
7Club in Akron, Ohio; for his contributions, he was awarded the
8David H. Franklin Volunteer Award in 2016; he also cherished
9Pine Hills Golf Course in Ottawa; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh volunteered with many community and
11service organizations, including Elks Lodge #588, Community
12Hospital of Ottawa/OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center ER, the
13Reddick Library Board, AMBUCS, the Jaycees, Camp Tuckabatchee,
14Camp Fire Board, the Civil Defense, and the River Rescue
15Squad; he also served a Little League coach; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was a lifelong member of First
17United Methodist Church; he was active with a variety of
18military veterans groups, including the American Legion, VFW,
19and the LaSalle County Veterans Home; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh never met a stranger, and he enjoyed
21a good steak and a good joke; he loved jazz, dancing, model
22trains, fishing, and his family; he especially loved being a

1grandfather and attending all of his grandchildren's school
2functions, sporting events, dance productions, and other
3activities; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was preceded in death by his
5parents; his wife of 51 years; his sisters, Pauline Klein,
6Cecilia Carter, and Genevieve Hall; and his brother, George
7Grubaugh; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh is survived by his children, Don
9Grubaugh, Dawn (Doug) Tedrick, and Elizabeth (Tim) Drea; his
10grandchildren, Jacob and Piper Grubaugh, Cameron and Kyle
11Tedrick, and Andrew, Bridget, Lillian, and Jack Drea; his
12companion, Diane McCurdy; and his many nieces and nephews;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Donald Leonard "Don" Grubaugh and
17extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
18who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Don Grubaugh as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
