HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Derwin Lee Ryker on the
4occasion of his retirement from law enforcement in Illinois
5after 41 years of dedicated service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lee Ryker served in the U.S. Air Force from 1972
7to 1976; he was stationed in Thailand, where he loaded
8munitions ordinances on F-4 Phantoms and achieved the rank of
9sergeant; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lee Ryker began his career in law enforcement as
11a jailer for the Richland County Sheriff's Office; he then
12worked as a police officer for the City of Olney from 1979 to
131984; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lee Ryker served as deputy and chief deputy of
15the Clay County Sheriff's Office from 1984 to 1990; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lee Ryker was elected four times and served as
17sheriff of Clay County from 1990 to 2005; during this time, he
18served as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) instructor
19in Clay County Schools and a chaplain, and he was later elected
20as president of the Illinois Sheriff's Association; and

1    WHEREAS, Lee Ryker served as warden of the Illinois
2Department of Corrections Lawrence Correctional Center from
32005 to 2011; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lee Ryker has served as a police training
5specialist and as a sworn investigator for the Illinois Law
6Enforcement Training and Standards Board since 2014, and he
7will continue to serve until 2023, making him a part of the
8training and certification of thousands of law enforcement
9officers across the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we congratulate Derwin Lee Ryker on the occasion of his
13retirement from law enforcement after 41 years of dedicated
14service, and we express our deep appreciation for his
15distinguished and respected career as a law enforcement leader
16in the State of Illinois.
