HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate LeeArthur "Lee" Crawford
4on his retirement as Doorkeeper of the House and to thank him
5for his dedicated service to the "People's House"; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lee Crawford started his full-time career in the
7House on April 1, 1986, overseeing and supervising pages on
8the House floor; he distributed a paper copy of every bill and
9amendment considered by the House of Representatives,
10maintained the official spindle with each bill and amendment,
11certified to the House Clerk that official copies were on the
12floor prior to the commencement of debate on a legislative
13item, and maintained order and organization of the reams of
14paper compiled on tables in the rear of the chamber; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lee Crawford was elected Doorkeeper of the House
16on January 8, 1997 when the House Democratic Caucus regained
17the majority in the 90th General Assembly and was re-elected
18to that position during the subsequent 12 General Assemblies
19before announcing his retirement on May 31, 2022; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lee Crawford was in charge of enforcing the House
21rules and decorum as doorkeeper and of calming situations on
22the floor when, at times, they would become heated; he worked

1with the Secretary of State Police and the Illinois State
2Police to ensure that the House, its members, its staff, and
3all guests were safe during legislative sessions; he also
4provided for the official entrance of governors and other
5distinguished individuals, including President Barack Obama on
6February 10, 2016, by calling out, "Mr. Speaker!" as they
7sought admittance to the House Chamber; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lee Crawford served Speakers Michael J. Madigan,
9Lee A. Daniels, and Emanuel "Chris" Welch and Clerks John F.
10O'Brien, Anthony D. Rossi, Terrance B. McLennand, Mark E.
11Mahoney, Timothy D. Mapes, and John W. Hollman; he also served
12with Assistant Clerks Anthony J. Leone Jr. and Bradley S.
13Bolin; and
 
14    WHEREAS, in addition, Lee Crawford served as a pastor at
15the Cathedral of Praise Christian Center and the Victory
16Temple Church in Springfield and often provided the opening
17prayer when the House was in session; he also counseled guest
18clergy, including the Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., on the
19protocols and traditions of the Illinois House and welcomed
20other esteemed guests, such as William Warfield and Secretary
21of Defense William Cohen; he provided a listening ear to any
22member of the House or staffer who sought his counsel, and his
23community service included collecting business clothes to help
24financially disadvantaged people dress appropriately for job

2    WHEREAS, Lee Crawford has been married for 32 years to
3Karen Crawford and, from that union, is the father of three
4children, Dr. Sean (Denysha) Crawford, Christopher Crawford,
5and Charday Crawford, and the grandfather of Emery, Sean, and
6Kynnedi Crawford; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we congratulate and thank LeeArthur "Lee" Crawford for his 36
10years of dedicated, professional, and selfless service to the
11House, its members, its staff, and the public; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Lee Crawford and his family as an expression of
15our appreciation, esteem, gratitude, and respect and with our
16best wishes for his future success in the next chapter of his
17life.
