HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
4Dominique Nicole Caldwell, who passed away on September 9,
52022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell was born in Oak Lawn on July
719, 1985; she attended Mayfair Academy in her early years; she
8graduated from Seton Academy; she received her Bachelor of
9Arts in Speech Communication with a minor in Spanish from the
10University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC); she earned
11her Master of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University
12in 2010; she married Gary Caldwell on April 13, 2019; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell began working at the RH School
14of Performing Arts (RHSPA), where she was an integral part of
15the staff, teaching dance and assisting with program
16development; she also performed and taught within many dance
17companies throughout Chicago; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell began working as a teacher
19within the Chicago Public Schools after earning her master's
20degree; she was a second grade teacher at West Pullman
21Elementary School, where she served on the school's
22Instructional Leadership Team; she began working at Tanner

1Elementary School in 2014, becoming one of the founding
2members of the Fine and Performing Arts Department; during her
3tenure, she led the school through full arts integration and
4played a vital role in organizing multiple performances,
5musicals, and plays; she also successfully secured the
6Creative Schools Grant which provided the resources and
7funding to create an outdoor mural at the school; recently,
8she began designing t-shirts under her business name, Nicole
9Larue Designs; and
 
10    WHEREAS, While attending UIUC, Dominique Caldwell was
11inducted into the Delta Rho Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho
12Sorority, Inc., where she was an avid stepper and loved
13teaching others; she then matriculated into the Delta Sigma
14Chapter, where she held the positions of Epistoleus, Rhoer
15advisor, and 4th Anti Basileus; she assisted in her mother's
16induction in 2007 and became a reverse legacy in Sigma; she was
17a current member of the Eta Xi Sigma Alumnae Chapter, where she
18previously served as a member of its step team; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell committed to her faith at a
20young age; as a child, she attended St. Kilian Catholic Church
21in Chicago; she then served as a praise dancer and
22choreographer at St. Ailbe Catholic Church; she later became a
23member of New Life Covenant Church; and

1    WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell studied and learned various
2dance styles, including ballet, modern, pointe, jazz, tap, and
3hip-hop; she enjoyed making various arts and crafts, tackling
4improvement projects, and making bracelets, craft and card
5boxes, and baby shower baskets; she loved traveling and
6spending time at the beach; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell will be remembered for her
8creativity, her dry sense of humor, and her devotion to her
9family and friends; her legacy will live on through Tanner
10Elementary School's outdoor mural being dedicated in her
11honor, memorializing her service to the school; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell was preceded in death by her
13grandfather, Otha Perkins, and her grandmother, Ida Mae Smith;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell is survived by her husband,
16Gary Caldwell; her daughter, Layla Nicole Caldwell; her
17parents, Victor and Denina Smith, Kevin (Josephine) Laurent,
18and Jennifer Jackson; her grandmothers, Thelma Perkins and
19Gloria Martin; her sisters, Ashley (Justin) Bowman and
20Victoria Smith; her brothers, Raymond (Amy) Laurent and
21Cameron Laurent; her nephews, Jayce Bowman and Keishawn
22Laurent; her nieces, Skylar Bowman and Kaleeya Laurent; her
23godfather, Gary Bratcher; her godmother, Kim Muhammed; her

1Sigma mother, Doris Brown; and a host of uncles, aunts,
2cousins, friends, and in-laws; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we mourn the passing of Dominique Nicole Caldwell and extend
6our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
7knew and loved her; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Dominique Caldwell as an expression
10of our deepest sympathy.
