HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jimmie
4Lee Burton Glass, who passed away on July 6, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass was born to Robert and Eula Mae
6Burton in Panama City, Florida on October 7, 1938; she
7committed to her faith at an early age and was a member of Mt.
8Moriah Church; she attended Rosenwald High School where she
9played guard on the girls' basketball team; she completed the
10Red Cross Home Nursing course: Home Care of the Sick at age 15;
11she left Florida and moved to Chicago at the age of 16 to
12assist with the care of her nieces and nephew; after meeting on
13a blind date in 1956, she later married Huey Leonard Glass; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass worked for the Chicago Board of
15Education; she began work as a lunchroom attendant and was
16promoted to lunchroom manager within four years; she worked
17predominantly in south and west side schools, ensuring that
18students had proper nutrition and were ready to learn; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass was a member of Mount Calvary
20Baptist Church and later joined Pullman Christian Reformed
21Church; and

1    WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass had many hobbies and interests; she
2loved taking pictures, including taking selfies back in the
31970s and candid photos of her children; she was an
4exceptional cook and baker and had a green thumb, producing an
5amazing rose garden and vegetable garden; she loved watches
6and playing cards with her neighbors on warm summer nights;
7she had a talent for typing, sewing, shorthand, crocheting,
8and puzzles; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass was preceded in death by her
10parents; her daughter, Gwendolyn Cecelia; her two brothers,
11Donnie and Robert; her three sisters, Zephia, Ruby, and Eula;
12her nine brothers-in-law, J.B., Earlie, Herman, Coleman,
13James, Earnest, Roosevelt, Curtis, and Calvin; her six
14sisters-in-law, Julia, Blanche, Carolyn, Adell, Dorothy, and
15Ann; and her son-in-law, Gregory; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass is survived by her children, Vaughn,
17Jennifer, Linda, Jeffrey, and Donica; her grandchildren,
18Iasha, Naja, and Gianina; her great-grandchildren, Amari and
19Carter; her sister, Barbara; her sisters-in-law, Ann and
20Burnette; her daughter-in-law, Tenia; her self-adopted
21daughter, Natatia; her nieces and nephews; her cousins; and
22her friends; therefore, be it

1HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we mourn the passing of Jimmie Lee Burton Glass and extend our
3sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
4and loved her; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Jimmie Glass as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
