HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Officer Rebecca Hayes and
4Officer Chad Vargas of the Oswego Police Department for their
5lifesaving actions on June 12, 2022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, On Sunday, June 12, a car heading north on Harvey
7Road drove through a stop sign and struck a dump truck that was
8hauling a trailer while heading east on Wolf's Crossing in
9Oswego; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Officer Hayes and Officer Vargas responded to the
11crash, finding the car in the intersection with its engine on
12fire; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Although the passenger could exit the vehicle,
14Officer Hayes ran to and around the vehicle to rescue the
15driver while Officer Vargas extinguished the flames; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Officer Hayes and Officer Vargas moved both
17individuals away from the car and performed lifesaving
18measures as well as first aid until paramedics arrived at the
19scene and transported the driver and passenger to the
20hospital; and

1    WHEREAS, Officer Hayes and Officer Vargas were recognized
2by the Oswego Police Department for their heroic response,
3ensuring the events of that day did not get worse; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Oswego Police Department stated the driver
5was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), among
6other charges, and cited the incident online to urge people to
7not drink and drive; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we recognize and thank Officer Rebecca Hayes and Officer Chad
11Vargas of the Oswego Police Department for their quick and
12decisive actions and their commitment to save lives and
13protect overall public safety; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That we recognize the bravery and sacrifice of
15police officers across the State of Illinois who so often
16demonstrate their willingness to put their lives at risk to
17protect our communities; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
19presented to Officer Rebecca Hayes, Officer Chad Vargas, and
20Chief Jeffrey R. Burgner of the Oswego Police Department as an
21expression of our esteem and respect.
