HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Transportation infrastructure is critical to the
3economy and future growth of Illinois; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Disruptions to the distribution of goods have led
5to shortages and increased inflationary pressures; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The transportation equipment supply chain remains
7clogged following the stresses and production closures from
8the pandemic; notably, class 8 vehicle production has stalled
9in large part from the semiconductor chip shortage, which some
10sources estimate could end as early as this fall or as late as
112023; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Equipment producers are also facing delays and
13high prices for other source materials and components, such as
14rubber, steel, aluminum, tires, suspension parts, and wiring
15harnesses, which is keeping the cost of commercial trucks and
16trailers high; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The federal government should implement changes
18to eliminate restrictions that would impede the transport of
19goods; and
 
20    WHEREAS, There are literally hundreds of regulations that

1apply to carriers, and the federal body that oversees
2regulations is the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
3Administration, which is part of the U.S. Department of
4Transportation; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we urge the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to
8examine transportation restrictions in the United States to
9assist with eliminating supply chain shortages; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12delivered to President Joe Biden and all members of the
13Illinois Congressional Delegation.
