HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, February 18, 2022 marks National Caregivers Day,
3created in 2015 to recognize in-home caregivers who provide
4personal care and support to enable millions of Americans who
5are aging or who have a disability to remain safe and healthy
6in their own homes; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Home care has emerged as a valuable solution to
8fill gaps created by traditional care models, including
9hospitals, nursing homes, and home health; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Professional caregivers work for licensed
11Illinois home care agencies and receive training to enable
12them to assist with activities of daily living, such as
13bathing, dressing, and meal preparation; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Professional caregivers provide vital
15companionship and mental stimulation by engaging their clients
16in conversation and other activities; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Professional caregivers help home bound
18individuals lead more independent lives, preventing falls and
19other common injuries, promoting medication adherence, and
20reducing social isolation; and

1    WHEREAS, Professional caregivers, who number nearly 4.6
2million in the United States, and family caregivers, who are
3estimated at 44 million, are lifelines to millions of
4Americans, keeping them safe, healthy, and engaged; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The home care industry is among the fastest
6growing healthcare industries in the U.S. and Illinois; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Home Care Association Illinois Chapter
8continuously advocates on behalf of providers and professional
9caregivers who have been essential in the fight against
10COVID-19; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Caregivers have faced the challenge of COVID-19,
12not only caring for their clients but also risking their own
13personal health and safety while doing so; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Home care workers enable families to stay
15together at home safely and with dignity as they age;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we declare February 18, 2022 as "Illinois Caregiver Day"; and

1    RESOLVED, That we express our gratitude to caregivers for
2their unwavering commitment to the care of their clients and
3families, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6delivered to the Governor and the Director of the Illinois
7Department of Public Health.
