HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sergeant
4Marlene R. Rittmanic of the Bradley Police Department, who was
5killed in the line of duty on December 30, 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sgt. Rittmanic was born on October 6, 1972; she
7was the daughter of James and Mary Jane (Thompson) Rittmanic;
8she married Lyn Stua on June 11, 2011; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sgt. Rittmanic was a 21-year law enforcement
10veteran; she began her career as a deputy with the Iroquois
11County Sheriff's Department in 2000; she joined the Bradley
12Police Department on February 13, 2007, where she was promoted
13to sergeant on September 2, 2014; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sgt. Rittmanic was widely recognized as a leader
15in community policing; she was known for her ability to speak
16to members of the community with respect while meeting them
17where they were in life, understanding their true needs, and
18working together with them to find a solution; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sgt. Rittmanic was awarded the Law Enforcement
20Officer of the Year in 2020 in recognition of her commitment to
21the Bradley and Kankakee County communities; and

1    WHEREAS, Sgt. Rittmanic was also a published poet, an
2amateur photographer, and a film producer for family, the
3Bradley Police Department, and community events; alongside her
4wife, she was an avid dog rescuer; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sgt. Rittmanic was a valiant Illinoisan and a
6proud member of the Bradley and Kankakee County communities
7who bravely and honorably served its citizens; she will be
8dearly missed; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sgt. Rittmanic was preceded in death by her
10mother, Mary Jane Rittmanic; her sister, Diana Jessen; her
11brothers, Richard Rittmanic and Mark Rittmanic; and her
12nephews, Richie Absher and Brett Mayhood; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sgt. Rittmanic is survived by her wife, Lyn Stua;
14her father, James Rittmanic; her sisters, Kimberly Organ,
15Christina (Ty) O'Connor, Kathleen (Rodney) Emme, Colleen
16Welch, and Jennifer (Jerry) Whitaker; her brother, James
17(Trish) Rittmanic; and several nieces and nephews; therefore,
18be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we mourn the passing of Sergeant Marlene R. Rittmanic and

1extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
2who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sgt. Rittmanic, who
4gave her life while protecting the citizens of Bradley; and be
5it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Sgt. Rittmanic and the Bradley
8Police Department as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
