HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles
4"Chuck" Anderson, who passed away in late November 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was a Maywood resident for 75
6years; he was a committed member of the Maywood community and
7worked with various social organizations throughout his life;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was passionate about teaching;
10he had a 32-year career in public school education; he began
11his teaching career at Emerson Elementary School in Maywood
12and taught for a short period of time in the Chicago Public
13Schools; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson taught physical education and
15was a football and wrestling coach at Proviso East High
16School, his own alma mater; he also served as Proviso East High
17School's assistant dean for four years; he was one of the first
18Black administrators at Proviso East High School; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was an entrepreneur and deeply
20committed to his community and family; with his wife, he
21co-owned the Che-Lis Ice Cream parlor, which was named after

1his two eldest daughters, located in downtown Maywood on Fifth
2Avenue; with his stepfather, he was also the co-owner of the
3Minor & Sons Auto Body & Repair shop, located on 13th and St.
4Charles Avenue in Maywood; he also owned apartment buildings
5in the village for over 50 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson cared deeply about his
7community, especially the youth; he was an advocate and
8founding member of the Maywood Recreation Center and was
9instrumental in starting its after school mentoring program in
10the early 1970's; throughout his life, he became a mentor to
11former students and other young men; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was a member of the Maywood
13Horsemen, a prominent social club in Maywood known for hosting
14parties, local fundraising, and sponsoring youth activities in
15the community, such as Little League Baseball; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson dedicated his 29 years of
17retirement to enthusiastically helping others in his community
18and spending time with his family; he was an outstanding
19public servant who served as a village trustee for three years
20and then as the chairman of the Board of the Fire and Police
21Commission for several years; in addition, he was a member and
22a former chairman of the Maywood Rotary Club and a member of
23the Masonic Jeptha Lodge #90 PHA of Maywood; and

1    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson will be especially remembered
2for his warm and generous spirit; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson is survived by his three
4beautiful daughters, Cheryl, LisaMarea, and Daphne Anderson;
5two sisters, Glenda Minor and Vonnie Rene Anderson; and
6numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members,
7and friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn the passing of Charles "Chuck" Anderson and extend
11our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
12knew and loved him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Charles Anderson as an expression
15of our deepest sympathy.
