HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Terry
4Lovell Dean, who passed away on September 19, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Terry Dean was born in Chicago to Thomas Sr. and
6Mary Dean on June 22, 1974; he attended Malcolm X College and
7received his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois
8University Carbondale; he later earned his master's degree in
9journalism and mass communication from Columbia College
10Chicago; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Terry Dean worked as a newspaper editor for the
12Austin Weekly News and as a columnist for the Wednesday
13Journal in Oak Park; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Terry Dean received several awards and accolades
15from his peers and associates for his exceptional work in the
16community and his commitment to cooperative economics; he was
17smart and insightful and had an intellectual curiosity that
18served him and his readers well; his greatest contribution was
19as a mentor to others in his field, and his message to aspiring
20writers was to read your local paper and as many books as you
21could, find your voice, and be connected to the community; he
22was an active member of the Illinois Press Association; and

1    WHEREAS, Terry Dean enjoyed reading, watching movies, and
2listening to a diverse catalog of music; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Terry Dean was preceded in death by his parents;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Terry Dean is survived by his daughter, Amiri,
6who he affectionately called "Buttercup"; his brothers, Thomas
7Jr. and Talman Sr. (Celeste); his sisters, Yvette (William)
8and Letitia; his nieces, Trans, Dorothy, Sakeena, and
9Maurianna; and his nephews, Maurice, Talman Jr., Montgomery,
10and Patrick; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we mourn the passing of Terry Lovell Dean and extend our
14sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
15and loved him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Terry Dean as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
