HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Steven
4R. "Steve" Allendorf of Galena, who passed away on February
512, 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf was born to Kenneth "Pete" and
7Ada (Hunzelman) Allendorf on February 10, 1956; he grew up on
8his family's farm on Gear Street; he attended St. Mary's
9School, where he served as a hall monitor; he attended Galena
10High School as a member of the class of 1974; he earned his
11Associate in Police Science from Rock Valley College; he later
12obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Dubuque;
13he married Dianne Brown at St. Mary's Church in Elizabeth in
14July 1977, and they had one child, Christopher, born in 1984;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf started his career in law
17enforcement when he was still in high school; he worked at the
18old jail of the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office under
19then-Sheriff Marlo Specht; he eventually became a deputy
20sheriff; he then worked as a patrolman with the Galena Police
21Department and was promoted to sergeant; he was also an EMT
22with the Galena Ambulance; and

1    WHEREAS, While serving the Galena Police Department, Steve
2Allendorf was elected sheriff in 1986; he was reelected four
3times; he served as the president of the Illinois Sheriff's
4Association; he was also selected to attend the FBI's National
5Academy for local and state law enforcement; he retired in
62005 after 19 years of service; and
 
7    WHEREAS, After retiring as sheriff, Steve Allendorf worked
8for several architectural firms that specialized in government
9buildings; he also worked part time for the Elizabeth and
10Stockton Police Departments and as a substitute teacher; he
11served as the vice chair of the Jo Daviess County Board; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf loved to travel alongside his
13wife; he was proud of his son Chris and enjoyed seeing his son
14sworn in as the Jo Daviess County State's Attorney in January
152021; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf was proud of his law enforcement
17service and grateful for the relationships he made through the
18years; he was proud to see his employees and colleagues
19succeed and achieve their own dreams; he was a firm believer in
20second chances; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf was preceded in death by his
22parents; his grandparents, John and Anna Allendorf and Ivan

1and Emilie Hunzelman; and his uncles and aunts, Melvin and
2Betty Schultz, John "Bud" Allendorf, Charles and Mary Schultz,
3and Patricia Bruns; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf is survived by his wife; his son
5and his granddog, Baron; his stepmother, Mildred (Stoewer) and
6her family; his brothers, Kenny (Carol) and Tom (Karen); his
7sister, Margaret (Steve) Vandermyde; his nieces and nephews;
8his aunt, Vivian Allendorf; his uncle, Gerald (Pauline)
9Allendorf; his numerous cousins; his father-in-law, James
10(Betty) Brown; his mother-in-law, Patricia Brown; his
11brothers-in-law, Mark (Becky), Mike (Jane), David (Dena), and
12Kevin (Dana) Brown; his sister-in-law, Kathy (Rex) Kreuder;
13and his numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Steven R. "Steve" Allendorf and extend
17our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
18knew and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Steve Allendorf as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
