HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are
3saddened to learn of the passing of Bill "Coach" Zeman; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bill Zeman was born on January 9, 1954 in Oak Lawn
5to Frank and Joan Cuchna Zeman; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bill Zeman married Melinda Zeman on April 2, 1977
7in Winfield; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bill Zeman started his teaching career at
9Roanoke-Benson High School in 1976; he loved teaching and
10never left the school; and
 
11    WHEREAS, During his career, Bill Zeman taught classes and
12ultimately became the dean of students; he retired in 2013;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bill Zeman coached the Roanoke-Benson High School
15Rocket's varsity baseball team from 1979 until 2014; he also
16coached cross country, girls softball, JV and varsity girls
17basketball, JV and varsity boys basketball, and junior high
18baseball; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bill Zeman had many successful teams and sports

1seasons, which included both regional and sectional titles; he
2led the undefeated, state championship-winning 1995 Rocket's
3baseball team; he was inducted into the Illinois High School
4Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1994, the Greater Peoria
5Sports Hall of Fame in 2015, and the Bloomington Normal
6Officials Hall of Fame in 2014; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Bill Zeman's successes were due to his love for
8and dedication to his players; this love was returned by the
9community with the dedication of the Roanoke-Benson High
10School baseball diamond, which was named in his honor; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Off the field and out of class, Bill Zeman loved
12to fish, to watch NASCAR and the Cubs, to spend time with his
13family, and to vacation at his cabin in Arkansas; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bill Zeman leaves a loving legacy, including his
15two daughters, Jayme Magnuson and Heather Scweigert, and his
16seven grandchildren, Brock and Reese Magnuson and Emma, Luke,
17Ryan, Jack, and Rhet Schweigert; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn the passing of Bill "Coach" Zeman and extend our
21sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
22and loved him; and be it further
