HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James
4"Jim" E. Stack Jr. of Collinsville, who passed away on
5December 24, 2020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jim Stack was born to James E. Stack Sr. and Wilma
7Rose (Grob) Stack in Granite City on July 20, 1947; he
8graduated from Granite City High School in 1965; he served in
9the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War; as a member of the
10Construction Battalion, he served 18 months in Da Nang
11Vietnam; he first served as a member of Naval Intelligence,
12but mostly worked as a truck master for the Port of Da Nang; he
13was awarded the Navy Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal
14with one Bronze Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Navy
15Unit Commendation Ribbon, and three commendations for breaking
16the record of materials shipped in one day and breaking that
17record twice more; he married Karen (Griffith) Stack in
18Edwardsville on November 27, 1985; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jim Stack first worked at McDonnell Douglas
20before joining the service; he then worked as a Rate Setter for
21the former General Steel Company, and he served as the
22Assistant Superintendent of Streets in Granite City; he had
23also owned and operated Stackorp, Inc./St. Louis Lead

1Recycling and Stack Environmental Consulting; later, he also
2co-owned and operated REDCO Marine and Stackers Restaurant; he
3retired in December 2013 from the Illinois Department of
4Transportation after 11 years of dedicated service as the
5Urban Planning Unit Chief; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jim Stack was involved in his community
7throughout the years, serving on various boards and
8volunteering for many organizations; most recently, he was
9serving on the Collinsville Township Board of Trustees and as
10a Madison County Deputy Coroner; he had served as Madison
11County Democratic Party Chairman from June of 2012 until April
12of 2014; he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Jesters and a
13lifetime members of AMVETS Post #204 in Madison; he was a
14member of the Ainad Shrine in East St. Louis and the
15Troy/Edwardsville Shrine Club and served on the Shriner's
16Honorary Guard and the director's staff; he was also a former
17Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in Granite City; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jim Stack enjoyed boating and fishing; he had
19many friends and was considered to be the life of the party; he
20knew how to have fun, cherished his grandchildren, and had an
21amazing array of accomplishments; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Jim Stack was preceded in death by his parents
23and his aunt, Eleanor Buente; and

1    WHEREAS, Jim Stack is survived by his wife of 35 years; his
2two stepchildren, Paul (Gigi) DeLuca and Laura DeLuca (Joe
3Pavlovec); his four grandchildren, Nigel DeLuca (Allison
4Kelly), Killian DeLuca, Aaron Stadts (Emily Otten), and Adam
5Stadts (Kylee Patterson); his six brothers, Daniel (Dil)
6Stack, Raymond Stack, Michael (Joann) Stack, Bradley (Patti)
7Stack, Anthony (Robin) Stack, and Stephen Stack; his two
8sisters, Kathleen (Dave) Cerny and Anna Marie "Amy" Stack; his
9sister-in-law, Kaye (Richard) Wilson; and many nieces,
10nephews, extended family, and friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we mourn the passing of James "Jim" E. Stack Jr. and extend our
14sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
15and loved him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Jim Stack as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
