HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend the DeKalb Rotary Club for
4their 100 years of service to the community and the world; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club was organized under the
6sponsorship of the Joliet Rotary Club on January 22, 1921; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club follows the objectives of
8Rotary International, including the development of
9acquaintance as an opportunity for service, high ethical
10standards in business and professions, the recognition of the
11worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of
12each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society,
13the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's
14personal, business, and community life, and the advancement of
15international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a
16world fellowship of business and professional persons united
17in the ideal of service; and
 
18    WHEREAS, From its inception, the DeKalb Rotary Club began
19community service projects, including the construction of a
20swimming pool for DeKalb County citizens and the establishment
21of a campground for the Boy Scout and Girl Scout organizations
22in DeKalb County in 1926, which included 27 acres, a pool, and

1several buildings; and
 
2    WHEREAS, To expand service opportunities, the DeKalb
3Rotary Club sponsored the formation of the Sycamore Rotary
4Club in 1944 and jointly sponsored the Kishwaukee Sunrise
5Rotary in 1991; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club has also supported
7communities across the United States and the world by
8supporting the global Polio Eradication Initiative, for which
9Rotary International recognized the DeKalb Rotary Club as one
10of the top 50 clubs in the world to support the initial
11fundraising initiative; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club has helped the world even
13further by partnering with the Rotary Club of San Doná di
14Piave, Italy to complete two international humanitarian
15projects, including the purchase of an ambulance for a village
16in the Congo and gifting an EKG machine to a village in
17Guatemala; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club continues to live the
19Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" by providing music
20recitals to retirement and rehabilitation centers, donating
21and volunteering with Meals on Wheels, acknowledging
22outstanding high school students with donations to school

1programs, and contributing to drug prevention activities,
2after-school literacy projects, and multiple other service
3projects benefiting the community; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club has continued to meet
5during the COVID-19 pandemic through online meetings, ensuring
6a consistent line of communication with Club members and the
7community; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we congratulate the DeKalb Rotary Club on 100 years of service
11to the community and the world; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the DeKalb Rotary Club as a symbol of our respect
14and esteem.
