HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is important to remember and honor the service
3of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of the
4United States of America; and
 
5    WHEREAS, U.S. Army Specialist Wesley R. Wells was born in
6Libertyville on October 24, 1982; he was a lifelong resident
7of Libertyville and attended Libertyville High School; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After high school, SPC Wells enlisted in the
9United States Army; he was stationed at Schofield Barracks in
10Honolulu, Hawaii; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In April of 2004, SPC Wells was deployed to
12Afghanistan to conduct combat operations with the 2nd
13Battalion, 27th Infantry; and
 
14    WHEREAS, On September 20, 2004, SPC Wells was killed in
15action in Paktika, Afghanistan; and
 
16    WHEREAS, SPC Wells was extremely proud of his career and
17accomplishments in the military; for his service, he was
18awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat
19Infantryman Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army
20Service Ribbons, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal,

1and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal;
2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of
6Illinois Route 137 from Illinois Route 21 to Butterfield Road
7in Libertyville as the "Army SPC Wesley R. Wells Memorial
8Road"; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
10is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
11State and federal regulations, appropriated plaques or signs
12giving notice of the name "Army SPC Wesley R. Wells Memorial
13Road"; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to the family of SPC Wells and the Secretary of
16Transportation.
