SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
410 ILCS 637/16 new

    Amends the Halal Food Act. Provides that any food commodity in package form that is marked as being certified by an organization, identified on the package by any symbol, or is otherwise marked as being Halal shall not be offered for sale by the producer or distributor of the food commodity until 30 days after the producer or distributor registers the name, current address, and telephone numbers of the certifying organization or the supervising imam with the Department of Agriculture. Effective June 1, 2023.

1    AN ACT concerning health.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Halal Food Act is amended by adding Section
516 as follows:
 
6    (410 ILCS 637/16 new)
7    Sec. 16. Registration. Any food commodity in package form
8that is marked as being certified by an organization,
9identified on the package by any symbol, or is otherwise
10marked as being Halal shall not be offered for sale by the
11producer or distributor of the food commodity until 30 days
12after the producer or distributor registers the name, current
13address, and telephone numbers of the certifying organization
14or the supervising imam with the Department of Agriculture.
 
15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect June 1,
162023.
