SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 3930/7.11 new

    Amends the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Act. Provides that, subject to appropriation, the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority shall establish a program to provide grants to law enforcement agencies to equip firearms used in the line of duty by law enforcement officers with laser sights. Provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of law, law enforcement officers may not purchase a laser sight purchased under the grant program when the law enforcement officer purchases the officer's service firearm after retirement. Provides that a laser sight purchased under this grant program shall be owned by the law enforcement agency that purchases the laser sight. Provides that an application for a grant shall be made to the Authority. Provides that the form of the application and the information required to be set forth in the application shall be determined by the Authority, and the Authority may require an applicant to submit with the application supporting documents as the Authority deems necessary. Provides that the Authority may adopt rules to implement this program. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Criminal Justice Information Act
5is amended by adding Section 7.11 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 3930/7.11 new)
7    Sec. 7.11. Laser sight grant program.
8    (a) As used in this Section:
9    "Law enforcement agency" means all State agencies with law
10enforcement officers, county sheriff's offices, and municipal,
11special district, college, university, or unit of local
12government police departments.
13    "Law enforcement officer" means any person employed by a
14State, county, municipality, special district, college,
15university, unit of government, or any other entity authorized
16by law to employ peace officers or exercise police authority
17and who is primarily responsible for the prevention or
18detection of crime and the enforcement of the laws of this
19State.
20    (b) Subject to appropriation, the Authority shall
21establish a program to provide grants to law enforcement
22agencies to equip firearms used in the line of duty by law
23enforcement officers with laser sights.

1    (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, law
2enforcement officers may not purchase a laser sight purchased
3under the grant program when the law enforcement officer

7    (d) An application for a grant under this Section shall be

15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16becoming law.
