SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-405.2  from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-405.2

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State shall refuse to issue any license plates bearing a reference to an organization organization or person included on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's or United States Department of Homeland Security's domestic and international terrorist lists.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5changing Section 3-405.2 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-405.2)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-405.2)
7    Sec. 3-405.2. Improper plates. The Secretary of State
8shall refuse to issue any license plates bearing a combination
9of letters or numbers, or both, which creates a potential
10duplication or, in the opinion of the Secretary, (1) would
11substantially interfere with plate identification for law
12enforcement purposes, (2) is misleading, or (3) creates a
13connotation that is offensive to good taste and decency,
14including any license plate bearing a reference to an
15organization or person included on the Federal Bureau of
16Investigation's or United States Department of Homeland
17Security's domestic and international terrorist lists.
18    The Secretary may revoke any such plates issued
19previously. Any person who has his or her plates revoked under
20this Section may acquire at no charge new plates and any
21required stickers of the same category and for the same period
22of registration.
