SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2310/2310-431 new

    Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires the Department of Public Health to ensure that: pediatricians ask about the presence of guns in homes and distribute safe gun storage information to individuals with guns in a home with a child; and safe gun storage information is available at all Secretary of State driver services facilities. Provides that the Department may utilize existing public or private programs to implement these provisions. Requires the Department to disseminate safe gun storage information on its website and in Department facilities. Effective January 1, 2023.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6amended by adding Section 2310-431 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2310/2310-431 new)
8    Sec. 2310-431. Safe gun storage; pediatricians; Secretary
9of State driver services facilities; dissemination by the
10Department.
11    (a) The Department shall ensure that pediatricians ask
12about the presence of guns in homes and distribute safe gun
13storage information to individuals with guns who reside in a
14home with a child.
15    (b) The Department shall ensure that safe gun storage
16information is available at all Secretary of State driver
17services facilities.
18    (c) The Department may utilize existing public or private
19programs to implement this Section.
20    (d) The Department shall disseminate safe gun storage
21information on its website and in Department facilities.
 
22    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
