SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/10-22.13  from Ch. 122, par. 10-22.13

    Amends the School Code. Provides that unless a school building is unsafe, unsanitary, or unfit for occupancy and notice has been served or notice is provided by a licensed entity able to determine the safety of a school building, the school board must hold at least 3 public hearings, the sole purpose of which shall be to discuss the decision to close a school building and to receive input from the community. Provides that the notice of each public hearing that sets forth the time, date, place, and name or description of the school building that the board is considering closing must be provided at least 10 days prior to the hearing by publication on the board's Internet website. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
510-22.13 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-22.13)  (from Ch. 122, par. 10-22.13)
7    Sec. 10-22.13. Necessity, suitability, or convenience of
8site or building. To decide when a site or building has become
9unnecessary, unsuitable, or inconvenient for a school. Unless
10a school building is unsafe, unsanitary, or unfit for
11occupancy and notice has been served under Section 3-14.22 of
12this Code or notice is provided by a licensed entity able to
13determine the safety of a school building, the school board
14must hold at least 3 public hearings, the sole purpose of which
15shall be to discuss the decision to close a school building and
16to receive input from the community. The notice of each public
17hearing that sets forth the time, date, place, and name or
18description of the school building that the school board is
19considering closing must be provided at least 10 days prior to
20the hearing by publication on the school board's Internet
21website.
