SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
25 ILCS 10/1.5 new

    Amends the General Assembly Operations Act. Provides that no person may serve more than 10 consecutive years in any of the following leadership roles: Speaker of the House of Representatives, President of the Senate, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, and Minority Leader of the Senate. Provides that the limitations imposed by the amendatory Act apply to service beginning on and after the second Wednesday in January of 2023.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The General Assembly Operations Act is amended
5by adding Section 1.5 as follows:
 
6    (25 ILCS 10/1.5 new)
7    Sec. 1.5. Term limits for legislative leaders.
8Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, no person may
9serve more than 10 consecutive years in any of the following
10leadership roles: Speaker of the House of Representatives,
11President of the Senate, Minority Leader of the House of
12Representatives, and Minority Leader of the Senate. The
13limitations imposed by this amendatory Act of the 102nd
14General Assembly apply to service beginning on and after
15second Wednesday in January of 2023.
