SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Martin Lynn Maguet of Monticello, who
4passed away on June 13, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martin Maguet was born in Decatur to Martin Harold
6Maguet and Vera Kathryn Maguet on September 23, 1936; he
7graduated from Decatur High School in 1954; he married Karen
8Kaufmann at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Decatur on June
96, 1959; he earned an undergraduate and two graduate degrees
10from the University of Illinois, where he was a Varsity "I"
11awardee and was active in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity,
12Intramural Sports as a student director, the ROTC, and the
13Tribe of Illini; he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in
14the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Martin Maguet was a lifelong educator and
16community leader; he enjoyed a 33-year career as an educational
17administrator and teacher in the Monticello School District;
18among his many accolades, he was recognized as "One Who Excels"
19by the Illinois Department of Education, as Teacher of the
20Year, and with an Outstanding Educator of America Award; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Martin Maguet was an active member of the
22Monticello United Methodist Church, where he served as Lay

1Leader for many years; he was known as a voracious reader, a
2pursuer of knowledge, a curious traveler, and a devoted dog
3lover; he was an avid sports fan of the Cubs, the Bears, the
4Bulls, the Illini, and the Sages; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martin Maguet will forever be remembered by his
6many friends, colleagues, teachers, and students for his
7compassionate intelligence, generous spirit, uncompromising
8acceptance and embrace of all living beings, gentle demeanor,
9and strong commitment to building a better world for all; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Martin Maguet was preceded in death by his
11parents; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Martin Maguet is survived by his wife, Karen; his
13children, Kathryn, Michael (Elizabeth), and Mark; his
14grandchildren, Andrea, Matthew, and Emma; his four
15great-grandchildren; his brother, Larry (Patti) Maguet; and
16his cousin/sibling-in-spirit, Ben Howenstein; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Martin Lynn Maguet and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
