SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, the members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Amelia Lenore Saccaro of Chicago Heights,
4who passed away on June 17, 2019 at the age of 95; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Amelia Saccaro was born on November 8, 1923; from
6a young age, she had to work in order to support her family
7during the Great Depression; during World War II, she ran a
8truck stop and worked as a cook, waitress, and dishwasher;
9despite not attending high school due to work, she was able to
10earn her G.E.D. after the war and soon earned as many college
11credits as she could through the College Level Examination
12Program; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Amelia Saccaro married her husband Quinn at the
14age of 19; she worked three jobs in order to send her daughters
15to private school in LaGrange; she instilled a reverence for
16education in her daughters which paved the way for them to earn
17multiple advanced degrees and careers in education; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Amelia Saccaro was vivacious and jovial; she often
19discussed politics and religion with anyone she could and
20enjoyed sending birthday greetings; she saw both Elvis and Neil
21Diamond in concert and enjoyed listening to Waylon Jennings and
22Johnny Cash; she also made an excellent lasagna; and

1    WHEREAS, Amelia Saccaro was preceded in death by her
2husband and her siblings, Joseph, Anna, Josie, Stanley, Alice,
3Helen, Bernice, Phillip, and Elizabeth; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Amelia Saccaro is survived by her daughters, Dr.
5Lynne and Bonnie(Joe) Steltenkamp; her grandchildren, Mikkin
6(Karl) Helvig and Nick Steltenkamp; her great-grandchildren,
7Tobiah, Esther, Naomi, and Asa Helvig; her sister, Frances
8Hoffman; her companion, Patton; her various nieces and nephews;
9and her dogs and cats; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Amelia Lenore Saccaro and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Amelia Saccaro as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
