SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald E. "Duke" Cartwright, who passed
4away on October 4, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Cartwright was born in Hillsboro to Henry
6and Irene Cartwright on December 10, 1936; he served in the
7U.S. Army in Korea; he earned a degree from Joliet Junior
8College; he married Vada Kay Knudson; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Donald Cartwright retired from the Department of
10Corrections, Stateville Penitentiary, and the Joliet Prison as
11a major; following his retirement, he worked at First Student
12as both a school bus driver and an administrator; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Donald Cartwright was a member of the Illinois
14Route 66 Association and the Will-Grundy Illinois Genealogical
15Society; he enjoyed his home life, travel adventures, and
16weekly Thursday morning breakfasts with his fellow retirees
17from the prison; he will be remembered for his devotion to his
18family; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Donald Cartwright was preceded in death by his
20parents and his brother, Jimmy (Doris) Cartwright; and

1    WHEREAS, Donald Cartwright is survived by his wife of 58
2years, Vada Kay; his children, Laura Patrick and Donald H
3(Sandi) Cartwright; his grandson, James R. Peterson; his
4son-in-law, Tom Peterson; and his brother, Gary (Susie)
5Cartwright; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Donald E. "Duke" Cartwright and extend our sincere condolences
9to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
10it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Donald Cartwright as an expression
13of our deepest sympathy.
