SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Daniel Franklin "Dan" Manoyan of
4Waukegan, who passed away on April 20, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan was born in Waukegan to Edward Manoian
6and Elaine (Fox) Manoian on September 30, 1950; he graduated
7from Waukegan High School in 1968; he earned his Bachelor of
8Arts in Journalism from the University of Illinois at
9Urbana-Champaign in 1972; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan began his professional career as a
11sports writer at the Kenosha News and spent the next five years
12covering local sports in the Kenosha area; he joined the sports
13staff at the Waukegan News-Sun in 1977, where he was delighted
14to be a columnist for his hometown newspaper in the place that
15had provided his father with the opportunity to create a new
16life for himself and his children in America; he took a
17position at the Dallas Morning News, which had one of the
18leading sports sections in the country at the time, in 1988; he
19landed a job with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel in 1992, where
20he worked until his retirement in 2009; while there, he covered
21many sports teams that hail from the State of Wisconsin,
22including the Green Bay Packers, the University of Wisconsin
23football and basketball teams, and the University of

1Wisconsin-Madison basketball team; he also covered several PGA
2Tour events during his career; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan published his first book, titled Men
4of Granite, in 2007; he was inducted into the Illinois
5Basketball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame for his work on
6Men of Granite in 2013; he published his second book, titled
7Alan Ameche: The Story of "The Horse", in 2012; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan was a golf enthusiast who felt lucky
9to have had the opportunity to see and play at some of the
10greatest golf courses in the world; he will be remembered as a
11first-class father, a loving sibling and uncle, and a devoted
12friend; he will be deeply missed by all those fortunate enough
13to have known "Minnow"; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan is survived by his sons, Edward
15Charles Manoyan and Randall Thomas Manoyan; his sisters,
16Barbara Burke and Judith Dembinsky; his nephew, Richard
17Dembinsky; and his nieces, Elaina Burke-Solie and Laura
18Burke-Jarrell; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Daniel Franklin "Dan" Manoyan and extend our sincere
22condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Dan Manoyan as an expression of our
4deepest sympathy.
