SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John G. Harpst of Fisher, who passed away
4on May 4, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Harpst was born in Monroe, Wisconsin to John
6R. and Eileen (Shea) Harpst on September 8, 1941; he married
7Donna "Jeanie" Johnson on May 19, 1962; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Harpst worked for the Mahomet-Seymour school
9district as a custodian at several of the schools, the last of
10which was his favorite, Sangamon Elementary School; he retired
11from the district after 23 years; while at Sangamon, he was
12known as the chief "tooth puller" as many students would seek
13him out to pull their loose teeth; after his retirement, he and
14Jeanie would make a special visit by fire truck dressed as
15Santa and Mrs. Claus for the Christmas parties; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Harpst served the Mahomet community for 45
17years with the Cornbelt Fire Protection District; he served the
18department in many capacities, including as assistant chief;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Harpst was a member of Our Lady of the Lake
21Catholic Church in Mahomet, where he was known for being their

1chief fish fryer at the Lenten fish dinners; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Harpst was preceded in death by his parents;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Harpst is survived by his wife, Jeanie; his
5children, Ronda (Steve) Sumner and Dan (Steph) Harpst; his
6grandchildren, Jordan (Lisa) Harpst, Garrett Harpst, Cameron
7Harpst, Rachel Sumner, and Carly Sumner; his siblings, Tom
8(Martha) Harpst and Tara (Ken) Nichols; his sister-in-law,
9Kathy Harpst; three nephews and their families; and several
10special cousins from Wisconsin; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13John G. Harpst and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of John Harpst as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
