SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, February 2020 has been designated Career and
3Technical Education Month by the Association for Career and
4Technical Education; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Career and technical education offers students
6the opportunity to gain the academic, technical, and
7employability skills necessary for true career readiness; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Students in career and technical education
9programs participate in authentic, meaningful experiences that
10improve the quality of their education and increase their
11engagement and achievement; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Career and technical education provides students
13with career exploration opportunities earlier in their
14educational experience, which enables them to make informed and
15beneficial decisions about their academic coursework and
16pursue established programs of study and career pathways; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Leaders from business and industry nationwide
18report increasing challenges related to addressing the skills
19gap and connecting qualified professionals with available
20careers in critical and growing CTE-related fields, including
21healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, and

1information technology; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Career and technical education prepares students
3for these and other fulfilling careers by offering integrated
4programs of study that link secondary and postsecondary
5education and lead to the attainment of industry-recognized
6credentials; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Career and technical education programs ensure
8that employers have access to a qualified and thriving
9workforce, ensuring America has a strong and competitive
10economy; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare February of
132020 as Career and Technical Education Month in the State of
14Illinois.
