SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gregory A. Carmouche of Chicago, who
4passed away on September 3, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche was born in Chicago to Cleveland
6and Murel (Jacobs) Carmouche on November 16, 1952; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche was a passionate and
8accomplished musician, who played professionally as a
9percussionist: he was a band leader for over 40 years, leading
10the Chicago-based Afro-Caribbean jazz group currently known as
11Pa-Ti for the last 20 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In the warmer months, Gregory Carmouche would lead
13impromptu public jam sessions with fellow instrumentalists at
14Chicago's various parks and beaches, bringing joy to the city;
15he was a regular performer at 63rd Street Beach; and
 
16    WHEREAS, As a musician, Greg toured the world with Curtis
17Mayfield and worked with celebrated artists, including Donny
18Hathaway, Ledisi, Maysa, Gerald Albright, Jean-Paul Bourelly,
19and many others; and
 
20    WHEREAS, When he was not playing music, Greg Carmouche

1worked in the construction industry; he contributed his energy
2and talents to a number of landmark buildings in the Chicago
3area; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche was well-known in the community
5for his positive thinking, his self-determination, and as a
6genuine voice for the arts; he will be sorely missed for his
7energy, his humor, his leadership, and his passion for life,
8music, and family; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche was preceded in death by his
10parents, Cleveland and Murel (Jacobs) Carmouche; his brother,
11Rhahim Khalil (Cleveland Carmouche Jr); and his sisters,
12Barbara and Patricia Carmouche; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche is survived by his brothers,
14Allen and Reginald Carmouche; his sister, Johnnie Carmouche;
15and several nieces and nephews who he cherished like his own
16children; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Gregory A. Carmouche and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

3of our deepest sympathy.
