SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Reverend Ottis Langston Livingston of
4Decatur, who passed away on January 20, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Livingston was born in Decatur to Horace
6Livingston Sr. and Arlusta (Sanders) Livingston on November 10,
71929; he attended the Decatur Public Schools; he married
8Honeylee Turnbo on September 2, 1950; he served in the U.S.
9Army as a Combat Medic Soldier under the 15th Medical and 1st
10Calvary Divisions during the Korean War; he was awarded a
11Bronze Star medal along with a medal from the President of
12South Korea; he was honorably discharged on November 6, 1956;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rev. Livingston worked as a lead operator at A.E.
15Staley; he retired after 33 years of employment; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Rev. Livingston dedicated his life at an early age
17to his faith; he was ordained an Elder in the Church of God in
18Christ in Decatur; he attended Foursquare Bible College; he was
19a Charter Member of Life Changers Church and served as a church
20trustee for many years; he became the Chaplain for the Macon
21County Jail in 1983; this experience led him, along with his
22wife, to found the Reach Prison Ministry; and

1    WHEREAS, Rev. Livingston was very active within the Decatur
2community; he served on several committees and councils,
3including the Mental Health Committee, the Homeward Bound
4Board, the City Advisory Committee, and the Elders Council; he
5served as a special policeman for the City of Decatur for 18
6years; he participated as a Grand Marshal for the Decatur
7Christmas Parade; he received numerous awards, plaques, and
8citations from State officials and local and city leaders; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rev. Livingston enjoyed watching local sports
10games, gardening, and playing baseball as a former Jolly Boys
11player; he was a man of great standards; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rev. Livingston was preceded in death by his
13parents; his daughter, Dianne; four brothers; and two sisters;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rev. Livingston is survived by his wife of 69
16years; his son, Bishop Glenn E. (Marcia) Livingston; his
17daughters, Susan Denise (Arthur) Vickers, Donna
18Livingston-Barry, and Suzy Lee Livingston; his seven
19grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; and his nieces,
20nephews, relatives, church family, and the Decatur Community
21family; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Reverend Ottis Langston Livingston and extend our sincere
4condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Reverend Livingston as an expression
8of our deepest sympathy.
