SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Alice Lockhart of Springfield, who
4passed away on January 13, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Alice Lockhart was born in Alton to Hattie
6Mae Lockhart and Samuel Lafayette Lockhart on September 25,
71939; she attended Alton High School; she later attended
8Jackson State University's nursing program; she married Wash
9Phelon Sr. on June 20, 1967; they had 5 sons and 1 daughter;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Alice Lockhart was a person of faith, love,
12prayer, and fasting; she regularly visited assisted living
13homes to share her faith in song; she was an active member of
14Amazing C.O.G.I.C. in Jackson, Mississippi; she sang alto with
15the Southern Mississippi Mass Choir and later recorded a live
16album with the Reverend Richard "Mr. Clean" White; in later
17years, she attended Spirit of Faith Church in Jacksonville; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mary Alice Lockhart was known for her hugs; she
19was also well known for cooking for the community and church
20and was expecially revered for her homemade sweet rolls and
21desserts; and

1    WHEREAS, Mary Alice Lockhart was preceded in death by her
2parents; her brothers, Darnell Lockhart and Lafayette
3Lockhart; and her sister, Doris Jeffries; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mary Alice Lockhart is survived by her children,
5Wash Phelon Jr., Lafayette Phelon, Antonio (Sharra-Lisa Marie)
6Phelon, Marcus Phelon, Michael (Rikeesha) Phelon, and Joy
7Thomas; her brothers, Sam (Juanita) Lockhart, Roscoe (Nancy)
8Lockhart, William Lockhart, Neal (Rhonda) Lockhart, and
9Charles (Cassandra) Lockhart; her sisters, JoeAnna (Paul)
10Caldwell and Frances Johnson; her grandchildren, Antonio
11Jambri Phelon, Antonio Christopher Phelon, Summer Breeze
12Phelon, Kingston Michael Phelon, Mary Lauren Phelon, Kyree
13Johnson, Marcus Rashad Phelon, and Andrew Jackson-Godson; and
14her nieces, nephews, family, and friends; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Mary Alice Phelon and extend our sincere condolences to her
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Mary Alice Phelon as an expression
22of our deepest sympathy.
