SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Colonel William T. "Bill" Green (Ret.) of
4Rock Island, who passed away on December 26, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, COL Green was born in Moline to Charles and Cora
6(Hermann) Green on January 11, 1932; he married the love of his
7life, Marvel Ingram, at the First Methodist Church in Moline on
8May 12, 1956; and
 
9    WHEREAS, COL Green was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952;
10he spent the next 27 years in the military, serving foreign
11tours in Germany, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, in
12addition to numerous domestic assignments; he received a number
13of decorations; he graduated from the U.S. Army Command and
14General Staff College, U.S. Army War College, and Florida
15Institute of Technology, from which he received his master's
16degree; he served in several key posts during his career,
17including the Joint U.S. Military Assistance Command in
18Bangkok, Thailand, the General Staff for the U.S. Army in
19Vietnam, and as a battalion commander in Vietnam; he retired
20from the Army in 1979 as Chief of Staff, HQ ARRCOM at the Rock
21Island Arsenal; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Following his Army career, COL Green worked at

1Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Co.; he retired as a Senior Vice
2President in 1994; and
 
3    WHEREAS, COL Green was as proud to serve his country and
4family as he was to support his community; he was involved in
5numerous industry, professional, and civic organizations,
6including the Rock Island Rotary, the Quad City Junior
7Achievement, the American Red Cross, United Way, the First
8National Bank of the Quad Cities Board, the Trinity Health
9Foundation, the Illinois Quad City Chamber of Commerce, the
10Illowa Boy Scout Council, the Development Association of Rock
11Island, Rejuvenate Davenport, the Metropolitan Youth Program,
12Arrowhead Ranch, and the Quad Cities Graduate Studies Center;
13he was selected as King of the Junior Board of Rock Island's
14Mardi Gras in 1989, its 50th anniversary; he also enjoyed his
15memberships at the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club and the
16Davenport Outing Club; and
 
17    WHEREAS, COL Green was preceded in death by his parents and
18a brother, Charles Green; and
 
19    WHEREAS, COL Green is survived by his wife, Marvel;
20children, Stacia (Mike) Campbell, Tom (Sally) Green), and
21Stefani (Danny) Miner; grandchildren, Maeve and Hayley
22Campbell, and Benjamin and Jonathan Green, and Lindsey and
23Garrett Miner; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Colonel William T. "Bill" Green (Ret.) and extend our sincere
4condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Colonel Green as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
