SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas Andrew "Tom" Guzzo Sr. of Rock
4Island, who passed away on January 3, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tom Guzzo was born in Streator to Dominec and Lena
6(Cusimano) Guzzo on September 25, 1923; he graduated from Rock
7Island High School in 1941; he enlisted in the U.S. Army in
81942 and was stationed in Italy with the Army Air Forces during
9World War II; he married Louise Eileen Gross in 1946 and served
10in the National Guard; he was re-activated to serve in the
11Korean War in 1951; prior to his deployment, he attended
12Officers Artillery School at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; he served in
13Korea as a commanding artillery officer and later served in the
14Army Reserve, attaining the rank of captain; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Tom Guzzo worked as manager of the meat department
16for the National Tea grocery store chain for 13 years; he
17opened his own market, Guzzo's Meat Market in Rock Island;
18Guzzo's Market was a family business with two locations and
19enjoyed 25 years of operation; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Tom Guzzo married Faye Sweers in 1998; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Tom Guzzo enjoyed hunting, golfing, gardening,

1dancing, traveling, and time spent with family; he was a member
2of the American Legion and VFW and a former member of the
3Viking Club; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Tom Guzzo was preceded in death by his first wife,
5Louise; his second wife, Faye; his son, Thomas Andrew Guzzo II;
6his brothers, Samuel and Joseph Guzzo; his parents; and his
7dear friend, Verna Trevor; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Tom Guzzo is survived by his daughter, Josephine
9"Jody" Helen Catherine Guzzo-Longman (Tom); his grandchildren,
10Tom Guzzo III, KayCee Cleaveland, Amy Wilcox, and Caroline
11Poling; nine great-grandchildren; his siblings, Angie
12Giametta, James Guzzo, Tina Sonneville, Ida Rummans, and
13Dominec Guzzo; and numerous extended family members and
14friends; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Thomas Andrew "Tom" Guzzo Sr. and extend our sincere
18condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Tom Guzzo as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
