SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald Wayne "Don" Ferns, USN (Ret.) of
4Milan, who passed away on December 22, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Ferns was born in Rock Island to William Henry
6and Grace (Galusha) Ferns on June 24, 1934; he served in the
7U.S. Navy during two wars and married Lois Jean Harlan in
8Kewanee on July 2, 1955; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Don Ferns worked at Alcoa for 19 years, where he
10was a member of the union; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Don Ferns belonged to the First Presbyterian
12Church in Coal Valley, the American Legion, and the Andalusia
13Lions Club; he was an avid camper and NASCAR fan, especially of
14Dale Earnhardt Sr.; he also enjoyed snowmobiles, boating, stock
15car racing, and wintering in Florida, Jamaica, the Dominican
16Republic, and Mexico; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Don Ferns was preceded in death by his wife, Lois;
18three brothers; and five sisters; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Don Ferns is survived by his children, Robert
20(Jill) Ferns, Dennis "Frosty" Ferns, Douglas (Laurie) Ferns,

1and Kelli (Todd) Sandusky; nine grandchildren; 10
2great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Nile and Glen Ferns;
3therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Donald Wayne "Don" Ferns, USN (Ret.) and extend our sincere
7condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
8him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Don Ferns as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
