SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles F. "Bud" Conover of Silvis, who
4passed away on November 28, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Conover was born in Chicago to William
6"Bill" and Dorothea "Dora" Conover; during his time growing up,
7his family spent time traveling with the Royal American Shows
8Carnival; his family settled in Rock Island, where he attended
9school; he married Rosemary Couquelle in 1951 and joined the
10U.S. Navy in 1952, where he was a member of an elite drill team
11traveling the nation; he also spent time in Honolulu, where he
12was a submarine repairman; he married Patricia "Pat" VanVooren
13in 1964; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Charles Conover worked as a millwright for several
15shops in the Quad Cities and eventually retired from the John
16Deere Foundry in 1993; he was owner of Pneu-Co, a pneumatic
17tool repair and machinery design company, and owned a fruit
18stand; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Charles Conover enjoyed gardening, woodworking,
20puns and poetry, and spending time with his grandchildren; he
21was well known for the poker and 4th of July parties that he
22and Pat hosted; he also taught his grandchildren how to shoot

1pool and took great pride in his political debates with anyone
2who would listen; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Charles Conover had a deep love for Christmas and
4played Santa for hundreds of children in the Quad Cities area,
5as well as for his own children, grandchildren, nieces, and
6nephews; his faith was very important to him, and he and Pat
7were long-time members of Christ the King Church; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Charles Conover was preceded in death by his wife,
9Patricia; his parents; his daughter, Suzanne; his infant son,
10Kevin; and his sister, Doris Serandos; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Charles Conover is survived by his children,
12Roxann (Larry) Natalie, Matthew (Janice) Conover, and Joseph
13(Diane) Conover; his seven grandchildren; his six
14great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces
15and nephews; and his caregiver, Holly Barnes, who he considered
16a member of his family; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Charles F. "Bud" Conover and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
