SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Barbara Houha of Oak Park, who passed
4away on August 2, 2019 at the age of 87; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was born to Hjalmer and Florence
6Olsen on November 20, 1931; she grew up in Cicero, where she
7attended Morton High School and Morton Junior College before
8completing a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Northwestern
9University in Evanston; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was a resident of Oak Park for 67
11years, where she was active in the Irving School PTO and as a
12room mother; she was a homemaker for many years and then became
13a Head Start teacher at Grant Works in Cicero; she retired to
14help care for her grandchildren; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was known to her family as a loving
16and doting mother and grandmother; one of her favorite
17activities was reading the social media updates posted by her
18family; she was artistic and loved reading and writing poetry
19or verses on scraps of paper; she always knew the exact note to
20include in the cards she sent her family; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was easy to be around because she

1found happiness from the little things in life, such as good
2news from a grandchild or treasured memories from her girlhood
3summers in Camp Lake, Wisconsin that she went on to create with
4her own children; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was preceded in death by her
6parents, Hjalmer and Florence Olsen; her former husband and
7dear friend, Leonard J. Houha; her brother, Harold (Patricia)
8Olsen; and her eldest daughter, Elizabeth; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Barbara Houha is survived by her children, Juliet
10(Kevin) Stantz, Allison (Patrick Olson) Houha, Leonard
11(Loreen) Houha, and Andrew (Cheri) Houha; and her
12grandchildren, Matthew and Clare Olson, Daniel and Steven
13Stantz, Elaine, Bradley, and Lindsey Houha, and Leonard,
14Nathan, and David Houha; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Barbara Houha and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
18friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Barbara Houha as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
