SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Geraldine M. "Jerre" McPartlin, who
4passed away on October 16, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jerre McPartlin was born on July 29, 1928 and was
6raised on the west side of the City of Chicago, attending
7Resurrection Grammar School, Siena High School, and Rosary
8College; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jerre McPartlin began her career in the labor
10movement in 1976 as a business representative for the School
11Lunchroom Employees Local 129 of the Hotel Employees and
12Restaurant Employees Union (H.E.R.E.); and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jerre McPartlin quickly rose through the ranks to
14become Vice-President of Local 1, serving thousands of
15unionized workers in the hospitality and food service
16industries; recognized for her abilities, she was appointed a
17member of the Chicago Federation of Labor's Executive Board in
181981 and became the first woman in history elected to the
19Chicago Federation of Labor as First-Vice President in 1985;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jerre McPartlin was a tireless community leader

1and devoted her time and efforts unselfishly to many worthwhile
2causes for the past several decades, including Misericordia,
3the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Mercy Hospital, Amvets Post
4#13, the Jesuit Partnership Foundation, Concern Worldwide USA,
5the Irish American Labor Council, and the downtown St.
6Patrick's Day Parade Committee and Queen's Contest, where she
7served as chief judge for over three decades; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jerre McPartlin was the beloved wife of the late
9State Rep. Robert F. McPartlin; the loving mother of Robert G.
10(Sally), Susan J., Marilyn T. (Alan) Van Wetering, Nancy A.
11(the late Lawrence T.) O'Brien, Frank L. (Nancy), William B.,
12Elizabeth A. (Patrick J.) O'Brien, Michael J. (Kelly), Brian J.
13(Amy), and the late Francis, Dorothy, and Gerald McPartlin;
14proud grandmother of 24; great-grandmother of 29; and
15great-great-grandmother of one; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Geraldine M. "Jerre" McPartlin and extend our sincere
19condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20her; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Jerre McPartlin as an expression of
23our deepest sympathy.
