SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dennis Keith Matthews of Nokomis, who
4passed away on October 17, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews was born during the Great
6Depression on January 13, 1935 in rural Fillmore to Lonnie I.
7and Opal R. (Funderburk) Matthews; and
 
8    WHEREAS, During the 1950s, Dennis Matthews worked for a
9variety of neighboring farmers and with his dad on the family
10farm; he took a job at Allis Chalmers in Springfield and
11married Joyce A. Volk on December 1, 1957; they made rural
12Nokomis their home for 61 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, During the 1960s, Dennis Matthews continued
14working at Allis Chalmers and farming; farming became full time
15for him in the early 1970s with the addition of a swine
16operation; his son Daniel began farming alongside him in the
171980s; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews was active in the community with
194-H, the Nokomis School Board, the Nokomis School Booster Club,
20the local grain elevator board, the Nokomis Lions Club, the
21Masons, the Shriners, the MJM Rural Electric board, and Meals

1on Wheels; he was elected Nokomis Township Supervisor; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews was a strong person and a giving
3human being; he was funny, mischievous, and hardworking and
4expected everyone who worked with him to have a dedicated work
5ethic; most of all, he loved his family and friends; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews was preceded in death by his
7parents; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews is survived by his wife, Joyce;
9his brother, Darwin D. (Brenda J.) Matthews; his children,
10Daniel Keith (Sydney Risser) Matthews and Dorothy Kay (John)
11Padgett; his grandchildren, Jessica (Adam) Avera, Wesley
12(Jenna) Matthews, Donald Padgett, and Keith Padgett; his
13great-grandchildren, Sophie Stombaugh, Karter Kirkendoll, and
14Maddox Matthews; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special
15friends who are like family; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Dennis Keith Matthews and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
