SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Diane Grace Zimmer Fascione of Oak Park,
4who passed away on April 16, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Diane Fascione was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to
6Ralph and Ina Orqvist Zimmer, who instilled in Diane and her
7brother their pride in their Finnish heritage; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Diane Fascione loved music and was an extremely
9talented singer; she used this talent in the choir at the First
10United Church of Oak Park and the Encore Chorale; she was also
11an art enthusiast, as well as a talented actress and teacher;
12she had a great passion for theater and painting, which she
13imparted to her children and the students she taught; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Diane Fascione met her husband, Chris, in the back
15of a taxi in January 1985, as they both waited with the
16director, the driver of the cab, for the theatre to be opened
17for the rehearsal of a play in which they were both cast; the
18script was "not very good" but led to a partnership bonded by
19their shared love of laughter, The Princess Bride, and vanilla
20malts; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Diane Fascione was a leader in her community, the

1welcome committee and social fabric and organizer of her 500
2and 600 block Woodbine family, and an advocate for the
3underdog; she was known as Diane "Glimmer of Hope" Zimmer to
4many, as she possessed an innate sense of citizenship and
5sought truth and equality for all; she worked passionately for
6peace and justice in the area, hosting postcard-writing parties
7for Democratic candidates and causes in which she believed; she
8donated her time and talent to many causes, including animal
9rescue and nature conservation; she was the author of a regular
10voting guide to judicial vacancies in the area and the
11coordinator of the local chapter of POCHA, a support group and
12resource for parents of children with allergies; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Diane Fascione made meaning out of everything; she
14strived to seek anything that would inspire awe and would point
15people toward life's meaning; she learned about the game of
16baseball so that she could bond with her husband and, later,
17her sons; she embraced National Independent Bookstore Day
18because it involved some of her favorite activities, reading,
19walking, and hugging; she became another sister to her
20sisters-in-law and was particularly supportive during their
21mother's battle with Parkinson's disease; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Diane Fascione is survived by her husband, Chris;
23her sons, Nick and Andrew; her brother, Matt; her
24sisters-in-law, Secky and Nina; and many nieces, nephews, and

1friends; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Diane Grace Zimmer Fascione and extend our sincere condolences
5to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
6it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Diane Fascione as an expression of
9our deepest sympathy.
