SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Maude Victoria Christie Moore, who passed
4away on August 30, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maude Moore was born in Salerno, Florida to
6Lucinda Thompson Christie and James A. Christie Sr. on February
724, 1922, shortly after they emigrated from the Bahamas; she
8was affectionately known as "Gracie" or "Sis"; at the age of
9nine, her maternal grandparents, with whom she had been living,
10returned to the Bahamas, and she stayed in Florida with her
11uncle; she was an excellent student, and by the time she
12graduated high school, she knew that she wanted to take care of
13people by becoming a nurse; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Maude Moore spent a year in New York with family,
15before heading to Chicago to attend the Michael Reese Hospital
16School of Nursing; she married Everett E. Moore; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Maude Moore converted from the Episcopalian faith
18of her childhood to the Catholic faith, and the family joined
19Holy Angels Catholic Church, where her children attended
20school; when her youngest child started second grade, she went
21to work for the City of Chicago, where she was employed for
22over 20 years at what was then the Department of Human

1Services; she retired in 1993; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Maude Moore moved back to Florida in 2003; she
3spent her time visiting with family, attending St. Monica
4Church, and watching CNN and Judge Mathis; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maude Moore returned to Chicago in 2013 and began
6attending St. Sabina Church; she was a talented seamstress and
7cook and was always laughing and smiling and ready for a
8conversation or to offer her advice; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Maude Moore was preceded in death by her parents;
10her husband, Everett; her brothers, Joseph Christie, James A.
11Christie Jr., and Marion Christie; her sister, Myrtle Christie
12Littleton; her brothers-in-law, Wendell Wooten Sr. and Harold
13Jackson Sr.; Christie Family patriarchs, Uncles Willie and
14Charles Christie; Christie Family matriarch, Beatrice
15Christie; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Maude Moore is survived by her children, Everetto,
17Viveca, and D'Rone; her grandchildren, Kia and Everett; her
18brothers, Lorenza (Loretta), Bernard (Della), and Randolph
19(Debra); her sisters, Vierie and Altamese; her sister-in-law,
20Helen; numerous relatives in Miami and Stuart, Florida and New
21York; her friend and "sister" of 60 years, Eleanor "El" Graham;
22and many others; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Maude Victoria Christie Moore and extend our sincere
4condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5her; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Maude Moore as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
