SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ronald A. "Ron" Raglin, who passed away
4on August 26, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was born in Chicago to Jeanette (Reed)
6Raglin and Clarence Williams on December 7, 1960; he attended
7William Shakespeare Elementary School and the Sue Duncan
8Children's Center; he graduated from Martin Luther King Jr.
9High School in 1979, where he played basketball for the Jaguars
10against players such as Isaiah Thomas, Mark Aguirre, and Doc
11Rivers; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ron Raglin relocated to California to play
13basketball for the Blue Devils at Merced Community College; he
14graduated in 1981 and began attending Sterling College in
15Kansas, where he continued to play basketball for the Warriors;
16he married Tena Powles on December 17, 1983 and graduated in
171984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ron Raglin spent his entire 35-year career in
19public education; he started teaching and coaching in Dos
20Palos, California and Merced, California; he returned to
21Chicago and spent 10 years as an administrator in the Chicago
22Public Schools; he then spent seven years in the U-46 School

1District in Chicago's northwest suburbs as the Assistant
2Superintendent of Educational Support Programs and Alignment
3and the AVID District Director; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was an AVID teacher and administrator
5for over 20 years, reaching thousands of students; he was a
6passionate advocate for justice and equity for all students;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ron Raglin received numerous recognitions over
9the years, including the Jerry Sloan Summer Basketball Camp MVP
10in 1978, being named as one of the 35 Outstanding Merced
11College Alumni recognized on the 35th anniversary in 1998, the
12Community HERO Award by the Merced Sun Star and Save Mart in
131998, and the 34th Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
14Humanitarian Award of Elgin on January 19, 2019; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was a member of Willow Creek Community
16Church and had previously served as a deacon and an elder; he
17was active in many community organizations; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was preceded in death by his parents;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ron Raglin is survived by his wife of 35 years,
21Tena; his children, Matthew (Anastasia) and Marissa; his

1grandchildren, Jayden, Amira, and Elianna; his sisters,
2Jennifer Sturden and Yvonne Saks; his brother, Alvin Raglin;
3numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law;
4and extended family and friends; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Ronald A. Raglin and extend our sincere condolences to his
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Ron Raglin as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
